It's hard to believe but Spring is finally here.   The birds are back and soon the daffodils and crocuses will be popping up.  We had a large class last Saturday for the Back to Basics class.  It was a lot of fun and everyone did a great job.     For the month of April we're offering 2 classes. "Sun Showers" and "Double Mountain Oval".  In May we'll be doing a wildlife painting along with the regular Landscapes.

  • "Sun Shower" is a 12x24 size painting which is not a standard size that you see most paintings done in.   I also have several 12x24 frames that will be for sale at a reduced price.
  • "Double Mountain Oval" is just such a unique and stunning painting.  It's one of mine and Kevin's favorites.

Paint-N-Party
We have had several successful weeknight Paint-N-Parties.  I've got my eye on a couple of potential paintings that will be easy, beautiful and FUN to do.

This Paint-N-Party event will be posted on the website and in the newletter soon so keep watch for them

Painting Tips

Give Yourself And Your Painting Some   R  o  o  m

Many times when we are creating our painting, we get so wrapped up in painting the elements.  We are INTENSE, CLOSE and FOCUSED on what we are doing.
It's important to remember to STOP, and take a few steps back from your work.  It gives you a chance to relax and allows a much different perspective than what you see when your right on top of the action!
While stepping back, here are some things to think about:

  • Take a look at the overall shapes of your painting.  Do you need to adjust a mountain or tree?
  • How does your paintings' elements draw your eye?  Corner to corner?  Front to back?
  • Are your highlights popping like you want them?  Remember you need the dark base to show the light.
  • Is there good breakage on the snow on your mountain?
  • What's the one thing you really like so far?
  • What's the one thing you want to change?  And before you do it did you make a plan?  What brush, color and stroke?

Well, you get the idea.  Take a break, step back, and make a plan. Do it regularly throughout your time creating your own unique painting.  Like Bob Ross says, "Its your world".
