Artist Corner

It's hard to believe but Spring is finally here.   The birds are back and eating the birdseed just as quick as we can fill up the feeders. There was a large class on St Patricks day for the Back to Basics class.  It was a lot of fun and everyone did a great job.     For the month of April we're offering 2 classes. "Sun Showers" and "Double Mountain Oval".  In May there will be "Seascape" and a Wildlife painting "Black and White Leopard".

  • "Sun Shower" is a 12x24 size painting which is not a standard size that you see most paintings done in.   I also have several 12x24 frames that will be for sale at a reduced price.
  • "Double Mountain Oval" is just such a unique and stunning painting.  It can be done on a 16 x 20 or an 18 x 24 canvas.  It's one of mine and Kevin's favorites.
  • "Seascape" is a painting I did at the August Advanced Seascape week in New Smyrna, Florida
  • "Black and White Leopard" is done in Acrylics with just a little bit of oil glazing to make the eye's stand out.

Paint-N-Party
We have had several successful weeknight Paint-N-Parties.  I've got my eye on a couple of potential paintings that will be easy, beautiful and FUN to do. Keep a look out for announcements on future Paint-N-Parties.

Painting Tips

Be Careful when applying Liquid White or Liquid Clear.

Most of the paintings we do in the Bob Ross Wet on Wet style require that we start by covering the canvas with liquid white or liquid clear, sometimes both.   Bob Ross always stresses to apply a thin even coat.   You can check the liquid white by taking your index finger and touching the middle of the canvas.  When you pull your finger away you should be able to see the liquid white on top of your finger print.  If the fingerprint is filled in or if your finger slides around when you touch the canvas there is to much liquid white. When this happens take a paper towel and wipe the canvas off.  Then take the brush you used to apply the liquid white and brush across the canvas to smooth it out.  Check it again.  Do this as many times as you need to make sure you end up with a thin even coat.   When checking liquid clear you'll always want to wipe with a paper towel first then check by running your finger across the canvas.  If your finger slides around then there's too much.  You'll need to wipe the canvas again.  If you have to much liquid white or liquid clear on the canvas the paint will become to fluid and won't blend well.

Happy Painting,

Janice

Quote of the Day

"This is your bravery test.  You worked so hard and then a crazy-haired guy tells you to throw in a big ol'tree on top of it all.  Take a two-inch brush..."
